Eng Seng Restaurant - Black Peppery Crabs!
Sunday, October 11, 2015 @ October 11, 2015

And on this Sunday evening, we planned for a crabby dinner at Eng Seng Restaurant (or rather, First Grade Seafood Restaurant).
Have long heard of their famed Black Pepper Crab but yet to taste 'em.

For starters, our mains came first.
Hor fun was not bad (no pics though).
But my sis likes the kway teow cause the sauce was watery.
Fried Rice

It was not bad imo, though a tad salty.
Goes better with their balachan.

Mixed veg beancurd platter (I have no idea what they call this)
Kinda plain.
Can totally just forgo this item
And the star of the show:-
Black Pepper Crab!!! ($119)

Heard from my mum that when they were ordering, the lady attending to her was kinda pushy.
Wanting her to order 3 instead of just 2 that we need.
Not forgetting the fact that these little ones cost a hefty $70/kg.
Kind of like daylight robbery if not for the fact that the sauce saved the day.
Was quite shocked cause I read in a blogpost written in 2014, it was $50/kg.
Seems like prices inflat a lot within a year
Looks like a lot but turns out that they just have big shells.
Learnt from the ppl there that they come from Phillipines so they're not the Sri Lankan one we're used to having.
Probably explains why they so small and costly.
This is the claw.
The sauce is pretty well infused in the meat as can been seen.
Overall the only dish that won recognition amongst the family for its sweet and not too spicy sauce.

Our total bill!
There is a 7% GST charge to your bill.

And finally, there's the service portion.
According to my mum and sis, they weren't exactly very cordial to began with.
Besides the pushiness with their crabs, they didn't let us get the two crabs to be cooked with two sauce.
Aw man.

And the lady would just remove your plate without asking if you'd like it to be taken away.
Though it's good to mention that there's this uncle who would always smile and feel like he's glad to be of assistance, at least he did say he was gonna take away my plate before taking it.

Highly doubt I'll go back there again considering the price and service.

If you're visiting, there wasn't much of a crowd on Sunday around 6. Which was surprising cause I read about it and ppl advised us to head over early like 4:30/5 on weekends.
Just probably go and try before prices jump again for their crabs!
