FlexiRoam experience Wednesday, September 19, 2018 @ September 19, 2018So, we book our flights to Kaoshiung from Scoot and they were running a promotion with FlexiRoam to offer free overseas wifi for Flexiroam's Starter pack! According to the email sent by scoot, it offers us 1GB of mobile roaming data to use at our destination. When we went to redeem it at their website, they stated that this redemption is for the starter pack. The starter pack includes the following: - ~50,000 instant messages (text only) OR ~550 emails (send / receive) - ~200 photo uploads on social media OR ~30minutes internet voice calls - ~1 hour of web browsing OR ~5 hours of map navigation Shipping costs us USD5.10 for 2 of the cards. The sim cards arrived really quickly, like within a few business days which was good. Though technically, its not a sim card but like an accessory to add on top of your sim card so there is no need to remove it. You just have to set it up using their app and follow the step by step instructions which was clear but not so clear. The experience When we were in Kaoshiung, it took several attempts for us to try to connect to the internet. We had to first connect ourselves to a WiFi before we could connect using the Flexiroam sim, which was funny because this should work like a roaming service? In addition, the network was limited to a few networks available so you have to make sure that your phone is connected to their partner networks else you would not be able to connect to the internet. Also, they would not inform you once the 1GB is used up unless you whatsapp them and then they would be able to check for you. Even their app requires internet to start up which doesn't make sense when you would not have any internet to use first? I also had a shock when I came back and my telco billed me data roaming usage for the days that i used Flexiroam. All in all, I would not use Flexiroam again to avoid unnecessary issues which can be avoided with either buying a local sim card or getting a WiFi egg. |
