Sanpou tei (orchard)
Sunday, August 31, 2014 @ August 31, 2014

Last minute's decision to coca last night proved to be a bad one cause they're full till 8:30pm and we were there at 6:30!
So we went back to the ramen shop we wanted to try last week!

Sanpou tei!

A really small shop just outside of Isetan scotts's b1 supermarket.
It's just next to toast box!
Looks really neat and when we arrived, there were a large group of Japanese tourists.
We thought they were all queuing for this shop!
So we joined in, but they were just there for the supermarket.
Hahahhah
Queue was real quick! Probably about 15 min?
Cause we reached around 7:15.
So we expected the dinner crowd.

There's a menu outside the restaurant so whilst waiting for your seats, you can decide what to get already.

We decided on a tonkotsu ramen, butariki mini don and a ponzu sauce fried chicken.
All of which proved to be real good choices minus the mini don.
Well, it's good, but really mini. Hehe.
Kinda inadequate for me but the fried chicken pacified my growling stomach!

Okay! Pics now!

Can't rmb the name though it's just last night but this was the recommended item! ($14)
At the end we decided on this sardine and bonito flakes thick soup ramen.
It's like the one at menya musashi where you also dip your noodles into the thick soup and enjoy it!
At the end, they'll give u a flask of wari soup(basically it should be just the seaweed boiled soup) to add into the balance of the thick soup so you can finish the meal with a bowl of soup!
The wriggly noodles were really springy and chewy!
Yums!
Went really well with the bonito flavoured thick soup!
Love the smell and flavour of this soup.
I'm a big meat eater but this bowl of goodness would make me come back for more of it! XD
And look at these two.
Perfectly made so the insides still flowed.
Meant to be placed in the bowl of soup but I waited till everything else was finished before I took this.
And it's still good but it'll be better with the soup.

This is my sliced pork mini rice bowl! ($5)

But it's really mini>.<
Hahahha
There's a raw egg yolk on top for you to mix in.
Kinda got the bibimbap feel.
Hahhah.
But the whole bowl's cold so the yolk wouldn't cook even as you mixed in.
Thought there might be a strong yolky taste but surprisingly there isn't.
It actually made the whole bowl smooth, moist and easy to finish.

And for the finale,
Special ponzu sauce fried chicken($8)

Looking at my picture now makes me feel like I'm not doing the fried chicken any justice.
Oh wells, it's them or nothing.
Anyway, it's fried spring boneless chicken.
Highlight here is that it's boneless.
And the thought of it being fried makes you think of it being a bit tough and oily right?
But all these thoughts vanished when I used the chopsticks to pull apart the chicken.
Yes, just my chopsticks.
It's that tender that I could just use my chopsticks to bring it apart into bite sizes.

And the ponzu sauce(a little sourish cause of the tangerines) made the whole dish appetising!
And we couldn't get enough of them!
We thought the fried chicken would be like those that we get from the supermarket, which quite a few jap places here sell, but it is not!
A real pleasant surprise.

We will definitely be returning for more of their fried chicken and to try the tonkotsu ramen!:)

Ohh! And the address!
Saw tt they already had a branch at holland village but go to the orchard one!
Cause it's still pretty empty.
Probably cause it just opened on thur so a lot of ppl don't know of its existence.
