Tung Lok Seafood Buffet - Orchard Central

Special menu for weekend buffet diners!

Egg Tarts

Normal, not hot enough and was a little hard when served.

Should have been crisp
Braised Salmon Head (Left) and Prawn Fruit Salad (Right)

Salmon head had a lot of bones and the collagen thingy.

Salad had a lot of fruits and very little prawns though =(
Cereal prawns (left) and salmon (right)

I found the cereal prawns to be not bad ^^

Better than the one at Pearl River Palace, but the prawns here weren't as fresh.

Salmon was good though some pieces were not cut properly.

Jellyfish

Normal with the sesame oil and sweet and sour seasoning.

Carrot Cake fried with XO sauce

Zhou's kitchen served better but this is also acceptable.

The XO sauce wasn't really there, they can put more.
Guess what this is=)

.

.

.

.

It is.......

Softshell crab.

Can you believe it?!?!?!?!

Full of flour and don't really have the taste of the softshell crab

It looks like they took the body of the softshell crab only.

Prawn Paste chicken

Not bad.

Chicken was quite well marinated and fried well.
Spinach tofu with spinach

Not really worth a mention as the spinach did not make the tofu any better or, if you must know, worse.

It's just plain tofu.

DIM SUM!

Siew mai (Top left), Char Siew Bun (Top Right) and Har Gao a.k.a. prawn dumpling (Bottom Left)

All were not up to standard, more room for improvement.

The ones at Yum Cha were so much better.
O.U.R. B.I.L.L.!.=.D.
Drunken Chicken

Just plain normal cold chicken.
Floss with Char Siew Sau

Not bad=)

But the Char Siew Sau could be improved.

The thing was fried and was a little tough at the sides near the exterior
Ebi Fried

Very salty and oily dish.

No good!

Beancurd skin wrapped with prawns!

This , to me is good!

But very, very, very oily!

Still, though a little salty, I liked it=)
Deep fried eggplant with floss!
Equally oily but with the floss it was not bad=)
Just don't take too much! Too fattening >.<

Left: Tung Lok spicy prawns
The prawns didn't seemed to be washed thoroughly.
And the prawns weren't all fresh.
Not a nice dish

Right: Ebi Fry
Not nice at all.
As the color shows, it isn't fried properly.
And and and, oh so oily =(
Very thick batter.

Century egg porridge with lean meat
Didn't give us a lot of the crispy cracker, which, btw, wasn't crispy at all, and seemed like they bought it.
Porridge was alright only but still acceptable for a seafood restaurant I guess.

Salmon crepe with thousand island sauce
This is not bad! but the salmon tasted like tuna though.
And too much thousand island sauce!

(Special menu only for weekends!!)

Fish maw soup (left) and sour & spicy soup(right)

Fish maw one was normal and taste like msg. Just eat for the fish maw.
Sour & spicy soup also like the ones at Lao Beijing, so was alright.
Pig's trotter with vinegar
Soup was not bad but a bit too oily.
Phoenix's claws!
Didn't take this
But looks good though :)
Deep fried golden mushroom
Been eating too much oily food already so was quite sick of this when it came during the ending.
Guotie - Deep fried dumpling
This was good!
Though the skin was a tad too thick.
But taste homemade!=)

DESSERTS TIME!!! :D
Ice cream puff!
This is good! But tasted like those you can get from the supermart so nothing special actually.
Walnut paste
Was a little salty but was not to bad.
Taste of walnut was not very prominent.
And if you do not touch it after a while, the top starts to found the starchy surface and the bottom starts becoming more and more watery.
So, conclusion, eat it while its hot!
Almond jelly with longan
Just like those you can do with packs of almond jelly mix and canned longans.
Gui Ling Gao a.k.a. Herbal Jelly
It was quite bitter, to my liking=)
But not smooth enough.
Can still feel bits of the powder but still a must try.

Price:
Monday to Friday - 11.30am to 3pm
$24.80++
$14.80++ (Child)

Sat - 11.30am to 3pm, Sun and Public Holiday - 10am to 3pm
$26.80++
$16.80++ (Child)

Service wise: Good in the beginning, the waitress was friendly in taking our orders and helping us decide what to get.
For the desserts part though, the waiter forgot our gui ling gao order and when we finally realised that they've forgotten about it, they replied that there's only one of the item left.
Which was really disappointing.
You would have expected a restaurant under the tung lok group to have better quality and quantity management.
Still, worth a try but no point going on weekends and paying the extra surcharge.

**P.S. There's a minimum 4 person for buffet seating!**
